 THE CONCEPT

ABOUT 650 MILLION -

People with hearing challenges.

APPROXIMATELY 70 MILLION -

Number of Deaf people in the world.

OVER 200 MILLION -

People with partial hearing loss.

As a lawyer, an adovcate for human rights and a part time radio broadcaster for more than 20 years, I want God to use me to help increase accessibility to electronic media for the Deaf.

But that is merely the beginning as there are several actions being taken to foster equality for the Deaf.

THE HARD TRUTH

 FORUM FOR DEAF TO

 PARTICIPATE IN RADIO

The concept of Radio for the Deaf sounds like an oxymoron. After all, how can radio be used by or serve the Deaf?

The hard truth is that some 650 million people (1/9 of the global population) have a challenge with their hearing. Of that number, about 70 million are Deaf and are cut off from the wide range of benefits which are available through the medium of Radio.

However, God desires for the Deaf to know Him and to benefit from the holistic information and ministry being shared with the hearing through Christian radio. That includes information about God, physical and mental health, finances, family life and legal issues, to name a few.

Sadly, in several developing as well as developed nations, Deaf are treated as a silent and voiceless minority and denied their human rights. Unlike the hearing, Deaf seldom have regular access to the powerful medium of radio to air their views, gain public support and receive effective redress.

By interacting with the Deaf and Deaf advocates through learning sign language, I have come to appreciate Deaf culture, the wonderful abilities of the Deaf and some of the challenges they face to access education, health care and to enjoy their human rights.
